Is Confidence a Skill?

Do you use a meal delivery service? If you haven't, perhaps you've been intrigued by the idea of having it all done for you. Not a chef? Not a problem! The ingredients show up at your door, the directions are simple and straight forward, and you know the end product is going to be DELISH. Even though I like to cook, the idea is more and more appealing to me. Largely because it removes a pretty big item off of my to-do list. Anything that is going to make my life easier AND give me the kind of results I am looking for is like the golden ticket these days. Do you feel me on this?

Now let's put this same lens on the whole idea of a Capsule Wardrobe. If you really think about it, they are very similar indeed. Not a stylist? Not a problem! The "ingredients" are the pieces I've curated for the collection that season. The "recipes" are the outfits I've created for you and the body shape guide that comes along with it. And the result? You feel confident, pulled together, and ready to conquer the day.

I should know that....

Ever catch yourself saying something like this? I should be able to meal plan and cook delicious meals for my family without help. I should know how to put clothes on my body that fit and make me feel good. I'd like you to STOP saying things like this. Stop should-ing all over yourself. I was having this conversation on a podcast last week and it really stuck with me. We CANNOT be experts in everything. In fact, I'd argue that trying to be is a dangerous game. You were made to be uniquely you and your gifts are meant to be specific. Share them. Share them so the rest of us who don't have that gift can learn from them. I mean, Pablo was on to something here....although I think there is some wiggle room with the idea of "giving" it away ;)

So, are meal delivery services worth it?

Or paying someone to help you get better at the thing that isn't necessarily your gift? I fall in the hell yes category on this one. There are so many things that I am not an expert at, so I outsource. I go figure out who can teach me the thing I need help with and learn from them. And once I have that knowledge under my belt, my confidence goes way up. I think there is a very strong connection between knowledge and confidence. And what a great world we live in these days to have so much knowledge at our fingertips. And this is what that means to for me

Confidence can be learned!

Let's play this out. If you had the ingredients and the recipes for your closet would you feel more confident in picking out your clothes for the day? How about a guide that shows you not only how to edit your closet but also how to fill in the gaps you uncovered? My guess is you absolutely would. This is a small example of how that whole concept plays out. If you like any of these pieces, you can click the image to shop! And while we are on the topic of feeling more confident in your closet, I wanted to share my top 5 items that I believe every woman should have at all times!

Top 5 items all women should have in their closet:

  1. A killer pair of jeans. Like the kind that hug you in all the right places and make you give yourself a second look when you walk by the mirror. PS, these jeans aren't an urban legend. They exist for everyone.

  2. A denim jacket. Classic, simple, good almost year round. Get one with stretch. These are 2 favorites: Number 1 Number 2

  3. A blazer. Great for dressing up and dressing down with a great pair of sneakers. Must, must have.

  4. A pair of statement sneakers. I recently made the statement that sneakers are the new stilettos. You can wear them with almost anything and there are soooo many great options out there right now.

  5. Finally, you must have something in your closet that makes you feel sexy. That can look different for everyone, but it's a must.

To Recap

Confidence is a skill. It can be learned. You weren't meant to know how to do it all so don't be afraid to go out and find the resources you need to learn the things that are going to up-level your life. Your closet can be a place where confidence blooms. I am a firm believer that it's a great place to start actually. I don't know about you, but when I feel like my outfit is working for me, I feel like I can tackle a lot more than would if I had yet to change out of my jammies. Just sayin ;)
